The St. Camillus Multicultural
Choir evolved in the mid-1990's as an outgrowth of the Sunday morning music
ministry at St. Camillus Church, a Franciscan community in Silver Spring,
MD, just 10 minutes from Washington, DC.
St. Camillus has become in recent
years one of the most well-known parishes in the DC metropolitan area,
in particular for its multicultural dimension.
As Music Director at St. Camillus
since 1991, Tracy McDonnell, the group's founder and director, has sought to
develop a broad, eclectic and versatile liturgical repertoire which utilizes
the richness of the Church's treasury of sacred music and which, at the same
time, reflects the diversity of the local and global Catholic
community.
Since that time, the
Multicultural Choir has become extremely active on the local liturgical
scene, regularly ministering at Archdiocesan events, National conferences, Interfaith
and Ecumenical services, as well as many parish-based celebrations such as
weddings, funerals, ordination services and concerts.
The choir continues to
minister year-round at St. Camillus at the 10:30 am Sunday mass,
and recently released its first CD recording, entitled Soli
Deo Gloria! Sacred Songs from Around the World.
